Lady Maroons notch third straight win

University of the Philippines kept its winning roll going after chopping down San Beda College in straight sets.
University of the Philippines encountered trouble early in the third set before regrouping just in time to complete a 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of San Beda College on Saturday in Group B of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Down 3-8 in the third frame, the trio of Diana Carlos, Isa Molde and Justine Dorog took matters on their own hands and mounted a scorching rally as the Lady Maroons walked away with their third straight win.
Carlos hammered 12 spikes to finish with 14 points for the Diliman-based squad. Molde had an all-around performance with 12 markers anchored on seven attacks, three kill blocks and a pair of service aces while providing 16 digs.
Dorog had nine points for UP, which boosted its semifinals berth bid and improved to 3-1 slate.
“Compared doon sa previous games namin, mas lumabas kanina 'yung mga inaayos namin sa training,” said UP assistant coach Kat De Lara. “Kita namin 'yung improvement. Siyempre, meron pa ring mistakes. Then again, na-apply namin sa games 'yung mga ginagawa namin sa training.”
The Lady Red Spikers dropped to 2-2 card.
Cesca Racraquin, Satrianni Espiritu and Jiezela Viray scored six points each for SBC, which was pushed on the brink of elimination.
