National University sets its sights on clinching a semifinals seat.
University of Sto. Tomas and National University seek to formalize their entry in the Final Four against their respective rivals on Saturday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tigers get to shoot for the third semis slot first against the winless College of St. Benilde at 8:00 a.m. in the curtain-raiser followed by the marquee clash of bitter UAAP powerhouse teams Bulldogs and unbeaten Atene de Manila University at 10:00 a.m.
UST holds an even 3-3 win-loss record at fourth spot and is coming off a 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, victory over San Beda College last Wednesday.
A win will give the Tigers a seat in the best-of-three semis to join the Blue Eagles (6-0) and Far Eastern University (5-1). In case the Espana-based squad loses, UST will still have a chance for a Final Four berth in a playoff against De La Salle University (3-4).
CSB remains listless in five games.
The Bulldogs sport a 3-2 mark at third place and are on a two-game winning run. NU defeated University of the Philippines 25-13, 24-26, 25-15, 25-17, a week ago.
But the task of claiming their third straight victory won’t be an easy task for the Bulldogs as they are up against a squad that has yet to lose a match.
The Blue Eagles easily submitted DLSU, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22, a week ago.
