Lady Bulldogs aim for a semis seat
National University sets its sights on completing an elimination round sweep and a seat in the semifinals.
Streaking National University shoots for a sweep and the first semifinals berth against Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday in Group A of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Opening serve is at 6:30 p.m. and will air via livestream.
The Lady Bulldogs parade an immaculate 4-0 win-loss record and another victory will hand them a spot in the best-of-three semifinals.
Standing on their way are the Lady Eagles, who are gunning to secure at least a playoff for a Final Four seat.
It will be NU's toughest test so far in the conference, a rematch against the same team the Lady Bulldogs have beaten in the V-League’s last two Collegiate Conference championship showdowns and in two UAAP meetings last season.
“This is a very good quiz sa amin. Magandang quiz sa amin ito,” said NU coach Babes Castillo. “Exciting ito and gusto ko ring makita how they will respond sa excitement na ‘yun. Ang gusto ko lang if they can respond mindfully rather than just react.”
“Sa akin basta makita ko lang sila na they are responding mindfully,” added Castillo, whose wards destroyed Jose Rizal University, 25-11, 25-15, 25-13, last Monday.
Six-foot-5 Jaja Santiago, Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas, Jorelle Singh and setter Jasmine Nabor will be the main weapons of the Lady Bulldogs against Ateneo, which is on a two-game winning streak.
The Lady Eagles swept San Sebastian College, 25-11, 25-13, 25-13, last week to improve to 3-1 slate at second to third tied with Far Eastern University.
Team captain Bea De Leon, Jho Maraguinot, Kat Tolenino and Maddie Madayag will carry the fight for Ateneo.
