National University will try to formalize its entry into the semifinals.
National University takes another shot at the last semifinals berth on Monday against winless College of St. Benilde in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Sporting a 3-3 win-loss record, the Bulldogs just need to hurdle the Blazers in their 10:00 a.m. match to join unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University (7-0), Far Eastern University (5-1) and University of Sto. Tomas (4-3) in the best-of-three Final Four.
NU is coming off a shocking rout against archrival Blue Eagles, 19-25, 19-25, 15-25, last Saturday.
If the Bulldogs defeat CSB, they will take the no. 3 seed in the semis and will pull the Tigers down to no. 4 because of a higher tiebreak points. In this scenario, NU will face the Tamaraws in the Final Four while UST and Ateneo tangle in the other pairing.
A loss by the Bulldogs will force them into a playoff for the no. 4 spot against De La Salle University (3-4).
CSB remains dangerous despite a listless 0-6 card. The reigning NCAA champion could play the spoiler’s role in its quest to salvage its pride.
Meanwhile, FEU hopes to end its elims campaign with a huge momentum as the Tams gun to extend their winning streak to six against San Beda College at 8:00 a.m.
