Birthday girl Risa Sato is the PVL's ray of sunshine
The energy and positivity she brings to the Lady Bulldogs is only at par with her solid kill-blocks and thunderous quick hits.

National University Lady Bulldogs' Filipino-Japanese middle blocker Risa Sato is celebrating her birthday today!

That only means one thing, we HAVE to celebrate it with a few of her most memorable moments in the UAAP and in the Premier Volleyball League.

At first glance, Risa is a bubbly character, one who always has a wide smile on her face even when the going gets tough.

The energy and positivity she brings to the Lady Bulldogs is only at par with her solid kill-blocks and thunderous quick hits.

Her lighthearted persona sometimes gives way to her fierce volleyball instincts, and for that, she's one of the most unique, and most fun players to watch right now.

Who could forget her solid PVL Open Conference campaign with the BaliPure Water Defenders? Along with her Best Middle Blocker plum, she was also a solid contributor to their CHampionship win over the highly-touted Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.

Another definite highlight for Risa's season was her nasty facial on Power Smashers' Dimdim Pacres. True to Risa's nature though, she immediately flash a worried smile, and quickly apologized. Now that's sportsmanship.

This one proves that behind her happy demeanor is a serious competitor. With the chance to win the five-setter against the UP Lady Maroons in the UAAP 79 tournament, she ended things off unceremoniously with a heavy-handed service ace.

Showing her lighter side, Risa, along with longtime teammate Aiko Urdas, took part in our 'DROP BALL' series, where they revealed the NU Lady Bulldogs' deepest, most embarassing secrets --all in good fun, of course.

Risa came a long way to get here. From Osaka, Japan, she's now living her Filipina mother's dream for her daughter: to play and succeed in the Philippines.

And we should be glad to be right here, witnessing her journey.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RISA!
