Blue Eagles, Tams out to seal Finals showdown
GOING FOR THE KILL -- Far Eastern University is on the hunt to finish off National University and advance to the Finals.

Undefeated Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University will try to set up a best-of-three championship series showdown for the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference men’s division crown Saturday in Game 2 of their respective semifinals pairings.

Cruising past University of Sto. Tomas in their best-of-three series opener, the Blue Eagles are looking to deliver the finishing blow in their scheduled 10:00 a.m. tussle at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Tamaraws and National University collide at 8:00 a.m.

Ateneo stretched their winning streak to eight after an emphatic, 25-19, 25-15, 25-21, sweep of the Tigers last Wednesday.

Marck Espejo and Chumason Njigha did most of the damage for the Blue Eagles with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Ishmael Rivera scored nine. Espejo and Rivera as well as Karl Baysa might skip the match because of their stint in UAAP beach volleyball.

Meanwhile, FEU outlasted NU, 25-22, 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14, in Game 1.

The Tams might miss the services of their beach volleyball bets Jude Garcia, Richard Solis and Jeremiah Barrica but will still have a solid roster led by Redijohn Paler and national team standout Peter Quiel, who scored 18 and 12 points, respectively.

UST and NU will try to force a Game 3 on Monday.
