National University seeks to formalize its entry into the best-of-three Finals.
Unbeaten National University goes for the jugular in Game 2 of their best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference semifinals series against Arellano University on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Opening serve is at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Lady Bulldogs clobbered the reigning NCAA champions Lady Chiefs, 25-17, 25-16, 25-23, in the series opener for their sixth straight win and a step closer to a best-of-three championship berth.
But closing the series won’t be an easy task for NU, especially with some of its players expected to skip action to participate in UAAP beach volleyball.
Romajoy Doromal and Audrey Paran are playing in the beach volleyball event held at Sands SM by the Bay. Their absence will narrow down the 12-woman lineup of head coach Babes Castillo.
With only 10 available players, Castillo will pin his hopes on veterans Jaja Santiago, who scored 24 points in the series opener, Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas, Jorelle Singh and setter Jasmine Nabor.
The Lady Chiefs, on the other hand, want to extend the series to a deciding Game 3 on Monday.
“Sinabi ko sa mga players ko na kailangan naming magpursige sa susunod na dalawang practice namin. Kung gusto pa naming magtagal kailangang manalo kami sa Saturday,” said Arellano U coach Obet Javier.
“Siyempre ang pinakakailangan naming gawin ay mabantayan at mapigilan si Jaja,” he added.
Jovielyn Prado, who was limited to only four points in Game 1 after averaging 15 points per game in the eliminations, needs to step up to help teammates Regine Arocha, Andrea Marzan, Mary Anne Eguerra and Necole Ebuen.
