It all boils down to who wants it the most as Ateneo de Manila University and University of Sto. Tomas clash for one last time Monday for the right to face Far Eastern University in the championship round of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference men’s division.
Action in Game 3 of the best-of-three semifinals begins at 4:00 p.m. at the FilOil Flying V Centre and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Tigers took advantage of Blue Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro of sitting out top hitter Marck Espejo and skipper Karl Baysa and pulled off a series equalizer, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, last Saturday in Game 2.
Without the duo, who Almadro reserved for the UAAP beach volleyball tournament held at the Sands SM by the Bay that afternoon, UST snapped the erstwhile unbeaten Ateneo’s eight-game winning streak and forced a series decider.
Ateneo swept the Espana-based squad in the series opener last Wednesday.
But with the Blue Eagles expected to show up in full force, the Tigers will be having a handful and will need all the production they can get from Joshua Umandal, who scored 23 last outing, Arnold Bautista and Manuel Medina.
FEU swept National University in their semis series. The Tamaraws will wait for their opponent in the best-of-three Finals starting Wednesday.
The Ateneo-UST loser will take on the Bulldogs in the best-of-three battle for third.
