Lady Chiefs rip Lady Falcons, near third place finish
Regine Arocha of Arellano University slips an attack through the block of Adamson University.
Arellano University got its revenge win against elimination round tormentor Adamson University.
The reigning NCAA champions swept the Lady Falcons, 25-23, 26-24, 25-14, Wednesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference best-of-three battle for third at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game 2 is on Saturday.
Jovielyn Prado blasted 13 attacks with three aces and a kill block for 18 points while adding 11 digs and nine excellent receptions for the Legarda-based squad, which absorbed a straight sets beating against the Lady Falcons in Group B elimination round.
Regine Arocha posted 15 markers while Necole Ebuen registered 10 for the Lady Chiefs. Mary Ann Esguerra had nine while Andrea Marzan scored five.
Arellano U overhauled a 15-20 deficit in the second set that proved to be the turning point of the match as Adamson faded fast in the third and the Lady Chiefs racing to 17-8 cushion to control the frame.
“Siguro napaghandaan lang namin yung game against Adamson,” said Arellano U coach Obet Javier, who squad was swept in the semis series by National University but not after giving the Lady Bulldogs fits in their Game 2 loss Saturday. “Siyempre malaking tulong din yung last game namin sa kanila pati yung game namin sa NU.”
“Talagang siguro mas maganda lang rin ang gising namin pero natiyaga rin namin sila ngayon,” he added.
Adamson dropped its third straight loss after falling short in their semis decider against Far Eastern University last Monday.
Joy Dacoron led the Lady Falcons with nine points while Chiara Permentilla and Eli Soyud, who played only in the opening set, finished with seven points each.
