Yellow Team celebrates after scoring against Blue Team in the PVL All-Star Sunday men's exhibition match.
Berlin Paglinawan played the hero’s role for Yellow Team in the fifth set as they turned back the Marck Espejo-led Blue Team, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Star Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Sta. Elena star, who was tapped by head coach Rhovyl Verayo as team captain, scattered five points in the deciding set including the game-clinching attack to seal the one-hour, 41-minute exhibition match organized to raise fund for the benefit of Hero Foundation.
Fauzi Ismail of Philippine Air Force had 14 points while Jet Spikers teammates Ranran Abdilla, the Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player, and Kim Malabunga finished with 13 markers each for Yellow Team.
Paglinawan played for only three sets but still came up with 11 points while Francis Saura got 11 markers.
The Yellow Team raced to an early 8-4 lead with Paglinawan leading the assault.
“Maganda 'yung laban. Diskartehin lang talaga. Lahat ng naglaro is exceptional player naman talaga,” said Verayo. “Pinili lahat ng magagaling kaya expected na maganda talaga 'yung laban.”
Espejo led the Oliver Almadro-coached Blue Team with 16 points with all but one coming off kills while Mark Alfafara got 10.
