Dela Cruz, Carolino to call the shots for BanKo-Perlas
BanKo-Perlas tapped Ariel Dela Cruz and Michelle Carolino as coaches for the coming PVL Reinforced Conference.
BanKo-Perlas named Ariel dela Cruz on Wednesday as head coach of the Spikers and replacement for Thai mentor Nai Muhammed in the second season of the Premier Volleyball League starting on April 1.
Dela Cruz, a former coach of the National U women’s volleyball team, will have former national team mainstay Michelle Carolino as partner in calling the shots for the Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon and Amanda Villanueva-bannered squad.
“Our coaches starting this PVL season are Ariel dela Cruz and Michelle Carolino and we’re optimistic the team will have a better year,” said Charo Soriano, one of the founders of the Beach Volleyball Republic that manages BanKo-Perlas.
Under Muhammed, BanKo-Perlas came close to making both the 2017 Reinforced and Open Conferences semifinals last year before winding up fifth in both tournaments.
The team will keep the same core from last year that included skipper Suzanne Roces, Bersola, Villanueva, Jem Ferrer, Ella de Jesus, Gizelle Tan, Tiamzon, Mae Tajima and Amy Ahomiro.
BanKo-Perlas is also looking to sign up players from the UAAP after the collegiate season.
