De Guzman signs with PLDT in PVL men's division debut
National team captain John Vic De Guzman inked a deal with PLDT.
National team captain John Vic De Guzman signed with club team PLDT with hopes of helping the franchise claim the crown in the 2nd Premier Volleyball League men’s competition slated to begin on May 6.
The opposite spiker will team up with other veteran volleyball players including national team teammate Mark Gil Alfafara under seasoned coach Odjie Mamon.
“Sobrang excited na po ako to play again and go against my idols sa PVL. Reunion din po namin ito ni Coach Odjie,” said De Guzman, who is also an actor, host and commercial model.
“I also wanted to thank PLDT management for allowing me to work around my schedule. It will be my first time in the PVL,” he added. “So gagawin ko po ang lahat para matulungan ko po ang team ko.”
De Guzman is an explosive hitter who helped College of St. Benilde claim its breakthrough crown in the NCAA last year on her final playing eligibility. He bagged the Most Valuable Player in his swan song.
De Guzman also got the nod to skipper the Nationals in their campaign in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games.
