PVL: Valdez, Creamline begin Reinforced Conference campaign
Creamline led by star player Alyssa Valdez opens its campaign in the 2nd Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

Star hitter Alyssa Valdez begins her quest to end a three-year title drought when the Creamline Cool Smashers open their campaign in the 2nd Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference against newcomer Petro Gazz Angels at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Sunday.

Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA and via livestream.

Valdez has her eyes on delivering the first-ever title for the beefed up Cool Smashers and to capture her first crown since helping PLDT win the V-League Reinforced Conference title back in 2015.

“Oo nga eh (medyo matagal na) pero excited na ako for this conference,” said Valdez.

As part of their build up to bag the coveted crown, Creamline tapped the services of former De La Salle University stars and decorated veterans Michelle Gumabao and libero Mel Gohing.

Back as Creamline import is Kuttika Kaewpin of Thailand with new partner in solid middle blocker Serbian Nikolina Asceric.

Also seeing action for the Cool Smashers are setter Jia Morado, former BaliPure player Risa Sato, Jema Galanza, Pau Soriano and Coleen Bravo, making Creamline as one of the teams to beat in this tournament.

“Mas mataas ang pressure kasi we’re on our second year na rin and mas maraming kinuha na iba pang magagaling na players,” Valdez said. “Siguro ang pressure for us is to really give a good fight more than getting the championship kasi if you give good fight naman against the other teams, hopefully, makaabot kami sa dulo.”

But the Cool Smashers are sure to find the Angels a tough opening day opponent.

Petro Gazz of head coach Jerry Yee is out to spoil Creamline’s party with former DLSU star Paneng Mercado leading the way.

Backing her up are Wensh Tiu, Chie Saet, Djanel Cheng, two-time champion Cai Nepomuceno, who was recruited from Pocari Sweat, Rachel Austero and Ranya Musa.

The Angels tapped as reinforcements Kadi Kullerkannm of Estonia and Anastasia Trach of Ukraine.
