BanKo Perlas outlasted Creamline in five sets to open its campaign on a high note.
BanKo Perlas outlasted crowd favorite Creamline in a five-set thriller, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11, Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao.
Despite the darkness caused by three power interruptions during the match inside the packed venue, the Spikers shined bright and glittered in the closing stretch of the fifth set to open their campaign on a high note while exposing the weakness of the star-studded Cool Smashers squad.
Reinforcement Kia Bright showed the way as the American smashed back-to-back hits to seal the deciding frame and hand Creamline its first loss in two outings.
Thai import Jutarat Montripila dropped 29 points off 25 attacks, three aces and a kill block while posting 13 digs and 10 excellent receptions for BanKo Perlas. Bright had 19 markers while Amy Ahomiro added seven for the Spikers.
Bright tied the fifth set at 11 to spark the closing rally of BanKo Perlas, which will take on defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force on Sunday at the same venue.
The Cool Smashers went ahead, 11-7, in the fifth frame only to see the Spikers rally to steal the match.
Thai Kuttika Kaewpin scored 22 while Alyssa Valdez and Michele Gumabao added 20 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Cool Smashers.
