PVL: PayMaya shoots for back-to-back wins
PayMaya seeks second straight win in showdown against defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force.

Pocari Sweat-Airforce franchise player Myla Pablo gets an early litmus test as she leads a retooled Lady Warriors in their repeat bid in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference.

The Lady Warriors will take on back-to-back win-seeking PayMaya on Saturday at the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao. Game time is at 2:00 p.m. and will air via livestream.

Pablo, who signed a multi-million five-year deal with the franchise in 2016, is one of the only three holdovers from last year’s championship core together with Jeanette Panaga and Elaine Kasilag.

Coming in to fill in the Lady Warriors’ roster are the veteran core of Philippine Air Force with Cesca Racraquin of San Beda University, who last year played for Creamline.

Pocari Sweat tapped the services of Americans Madelaine Palmer and Ari Love as reinforcements.

“Malaking factor ang nawala sa aming teammates sa Pocari, then naiwan na lang kami nina Elaine, ako, si Panaga,” said Pablo. “Si Cesca medyo naga-adjust pa sa team namin and sa amin din. Pero buo naman ang Air Force so kami na ang naga-adjust sa training at sa court para mag-jell kami.”

Pocari Sweat will take on BanKo-Perlas on Sunday.

The High Flyers are coming off a 25-8, 33-31, 25-20 win over Tacloban a week ago.

But PayMaya head coach Roger Gorayeb braces for a tough and draining weekend schedule.

After their match against the Lady Warriors, the High Flyers will face Creamline on Sunday.

“Dalawang magkasunod, ‘yun din ang concern ko. Sabi ko rin sa kanila playing two games in a row tapos ang init pa sa Tugegarao so sabi ko hindi ano eh, hindi player friendly,” said Gorayeb.

“Doon kasi alam naman natin ang temperature tapos maglalaro ka dalawang sunod na araw but andito kami we just have to follow kung ano man ang ano doon is ano eh,” he added.

Grethcel Soltones, Celine Domingo, Jerrili Malabanan and imports Shelby Sullivan and Tess Rountree banner PayMaya.
