PVL: Water Defenders target third win in a row
BaliPure-National University shoots for a third straight win and a share of the lead.

BaliPure-National University tries to extend its winning streak to three straight against a skidding BanKo Perlas side Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Water Defenders, bannered by four-time UAAP girls volleyball champion Nazareth School of NU, set their eyes on climbing on top of the leaderboard alongside Creamline Cool Smashers and PayMaya.

Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air via livestream.

After dropping its opening game, BaliPure defeated Petro Gazz in five sets before hurdling Tacloban, 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, last Saturday in Batangas City.

With just two games in with the Water Defenders, American import Janisa Johnson turned into BaliPure’s main scoring option after averaging 29 points per game.

Locals setter Joyme Cagande and libero Jennifer Nierva are slowly making a name for themselves. Cagande, a multi-titled high school playmaker, is no. 1 in setting with 7.77 average excellent sets per frame while Nierva has a 55.56% efficiency rate in reception.

The Perlas Spikers are on a three-game slide and are coming off a stinging 25-15, 25-18, 28-25, 20-25, 9-15, loss to Petro Gazz last Sunday in Batangas.

BanKo sports a 1-3 slate tied with Petro Gazz.
