Mark Alfafara and John Vic De Guzman spearheaded PLDT Home Fibr's dominating win over Philippine Army.
National team members Mark Alfafara and John Vic De Guzman led PLDT Home Fibr’s relentless assault to ambush the stunned Philippine Army, 25-15, 25-10, 25-23, Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference men’s play at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Ultra Fast Hitters annexed their second straight win to even their record to 2-2.
Alfafara and De Guzman, who represented the country in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, scored 11 points each for PLDT. The duo had nine attack points apiece in the Ultra Fast Hitters’ 41 kills that submitted the Troopers in just 70 minutes.
Alfafara, who dropped 29 points in PLDT’s four-set win over defending champion Cignal last week to end a two-game slide, added seven digs while libero Rence Melgar tallied 16 excellent receptions and eight digs.
Jayvee Sumagaysay and Kheeno Franco added nine points each while Ronchette Villegas dished out 24 excellent sets for the Ultra Fast Hitters.
Army absorbed its third loss in four games and failed to capitalize on its momentum after a morale-boosting win over Philippine Air Force a week ago.
No Trooper scored in double figures with Benjaylo Labide, Patrick Rojas and Antonio Torres punching only seven markers each.
