Itís always good to go back here and play for them and show them ano yung mga napo-produce na Batanguena -- Alyssa Valdez
BATANGAS CITY -- Batangas could be considered as Philippine volleyball’s hotbed for the number of players it has produced.
And when a daughter of the province South of the Big City plays in a homecoming game, expect the Batanguenos to swarm the match venue.
Alyssa Valdez, who hailed from San Juan, enjoyed the home crowd advantage here at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum when Creamline swept Tacloban, 25-14, 27-25, 26-24, Sunday to take the solo lead in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference.
“It’s always exciting to play not only sa hometown ko but out of town kasi the crowd are very energetic and in to the game sila,” said Valdez, whose squad took its second straight win in the same venue after downing defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force last week. “It’s so nice to play for them kasi minsan lang sila makanood ng live action eh.”
“Nakakatuwa na nai-involve rin ang mga fans, lalung-lalo na ngayon na nasa Batangas tayo. Siyempre mamahalin nila kung sino yung sariling atin di ba? Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga nag-cheer sa akin,” she added.
With the crowd behind her, Valdez played an inspired game especially in the tight second and third sets.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Queen Eagle finished with 22 points anchored on 14 attacks and eight service aces, including three in a row in the third frame that capped the 6-1 fight back of Creamline to move at match point, 24-23, after trailing by four.
“Kapag naririnig mo sila medyo may energy sila, so kumukuha ka rin ng energy sa kanila. At the same time gusto mo ring ipakita sa kanila kung ano ang pina-practice and tini-training ninyo,” said Valdez, who had four consecutive service winners late in the opening frame.
The victory, for Valdez, was extra sweeter especially that she earned it in front of her Kababayans.
“Oo naman. Nakaka-inspire talaga lalo na dito rin ako nagsimula di ba? It’s always good to go back here and play for them and show them ano yung mga napo-produce na Batanguena,” she said.
