Ukranian Olena Lymareva-Flink dropped 30 points to lead Petro Gazz past defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force.
After struggling early in the tournament, Petro Gazz is now enjoying a great run.
The Angels extended their winning streak to three straight after torching defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force, 25-19, 20-25, 28-26, 25-21, Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Petro Gazz came back from huge deficits in the third and fourth sets to even its record to 3-3 tied with its victim, which lost its veteran setter Wendy Semana to a right ankle sprain in the second set after an awkward landing.
“Kumakapit eh, (it’s) good, it shows na kahit papaano meron tayong detremination, may kapit,” said Angels coach Jerry Yee. “(But) we try to work on sa mga slow starts na ganyan hindi pwede ‘yan.”
Ukranian Olena Lymareva-Flink again led the Angels’ offense with 30 points coming off 25 spikes and five service aces while Ukranian import Anastasia Trach finished with 17 markers. Cherry Nunag scored eight while Chie Saet tallied 39 excellent sets.
Petro Gazz erased an 8-16 deficit in the third frame with an 11-1 scoring spurt for a 19-17 lead before a tight wind up.
The Angels again overhauled an early 0-6 hole to tie it at 14 in the fourth. Petro Gazz moved match point after an error by Myla Pablo, 24-20.
Cai Nepomuceno came up short with her service in the next play before Trach sealed the win with a running attack.
Pablo finished with 20 points anchored on 18 kills while American import Maddie Palmer had 17 markers with 30 excellent receptions and 11 digs. American Ari Love scored 13.
