PVL: HD Spikers claim solo lead
Japan-bound Marck Espejo powered Cignal to an emphatic sweep of Instituto Estetico Manila to take the solo lead.

An inspired Marck Espejo spearheaded defending champion Cignal to a cakewalk 25-20, 25-19, 25-16, win over Instituto Estetico Manila to move up to solo lead Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference men’s play at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Espejo, who is set to suit up for Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler in the Japanese V1 League after the conference, scored all but one of his 17 points from attacks for the HD Spikers, who won their second straight match and improved to 3-1 win-loss record.

Ysay Marasigan finished with 10 markers, 9 coming off kills, while Rex Intal scored seven for Cignal, which unleashed 47 points on spikes.

The HD Spikes needed only 70 minutes to hand the Phoenix Volley Masters their straight loss in four outings.

Greg Dolor was the only IEM player in double figures with 10 points.

Mark Enciso and Bonjomar Castel combined for 10 markers for the Phoenix Volley Masters, who tied idle PLDT in the standing.
