PayMaya punched the last outright semifinals ticket with a sweet sweep of Petro Gazz.
PayMaya needed to hang tough in the closing stretch of the first two sets before cruising in the third to sweep Petro Gazz, 27-25, 25-23, 25-17, Saturday and secure the last outright semifinals seat in Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The High Flyers bounced back from a previous setback and improved their record to 4-2 to join league-leading Creamline (5-1) in the Final Four. With the win, PayMaya already secured a superior quotient in case of a tie at second spot after the prelims.
American Tess Rountree paced the High Flyers with 19 points, all from attacks, while Grethcel Soltones finally woke up from a scoring slump to chip in 12 markers.
Celine Domingo played big at the net with four kill blocks in her eight-point outing while Aiko Urdas and Jerrili Malabanan combined for 13 markers for PayMaya. Setter Jasmine Nabor tallied 30 excellent sets.
The Angels closed their prelims campaign with a 3-4 slate and saw their three-game winning streak snapped.
Ukrainians Olena Lymareva-Flink and Anastasiia Trach scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Petro Gazz, which joined BaliPure-NU, defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force, Tacloban, Iriga-Navy and BanKo in the round-robin quarterfinals.
