Creamline prized setter Jia Morado sustained a shoulder injury and will be out indefinitely according to Cool Smashers officials.
Creamline starting setter Jia Morado will be out indefinitely according to team officials.
The playmaker exited the semifinals-bound Cool Smashers’ 25-21, 26-24, 25-23, win over Iriga-Navy in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference Wednesday midway in the second set after hurting her right shoulder.
Morado was in pain after Creamline narrowed the deficit to 15-16 in the second frame. She was holding on to her right shoulder as she walked off the court.
Morado had her shoulder iced and sat out the rest of the match. She told reporters that she was OK and it was just a lingering injury.
Morado politely declined to grant an interview.
“Si Jia kasi yung tipo ng player na pag di umiiyak kaya nya yan, pag umiyak na siya alam na namin na tutulungan na namin,” said Alyssa Valdez, who has been playing with Morado since their college days with Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP.
“We understand it’s been going na last game siguro mayroon na siyang ganyan and naitawid naman din but today siguro di na kinaya,” added Valdez, who scored 19 points to power the Cool Smashers to their fifth straight win and a 6-1 record to end the preliminary round.
Creamline will have almost a month of rest before marching into battle in the best-of-three Final Four against the no. 4 seed.
“Blessing in disguise na medyo matagal ang break and maraming may nararamdaman sa team,” said Valdez. “It’s good for the team to recover kasi di rin madali pinagdaanan namin nung first round and lahat ng teams bakbakan and yun lang leeway namin para makapag-rest, lalo na si Jia.”
