PLDT Home Fibr opened its quarterfinals campaign with a 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, revenge win over Instituto Estetico Manila in the Premiere Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference men's play at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Saturday.
The Ultra Fast Hitters moved a step closer to clinching one of the two remaining Final Four slots at stake in the round robin battle.
Defending champion Cignal and Vice Co. secured the two outright semis berths.
Mark Alfafara let it rain as the national team standout fired 24 attacks in his 27-point production for PLDT, which exacted payback on the same rival that handed the Ultra Fast Hitters a five-set loss in the preliminary round.
John Vic De Guzman added 18 points with 16 coming of kills while James Pecana finished with 12 markers, 27 excellent receptions and seven digs for PLDT, which hammered 66 points off spikes orchestrated by Ronchette Villegas' 61 excellent sets.
Libero Rence Melgar flexed his muscles on floor defense with 29 excellent receptions and 16 digs for the Ultra Fast Hitters, which added more woes to the skidding Phoenix Volley Masters.
IEM dropped its fourth straight game since the prelims.
Joeward Presnede had 16 points while Mark Enciso and Jeffrey Jimenez posted 13 each for the Phoenix Volley Masters. Greg Dolor finished with 11 for IEM.
