PVL: Angels bounce back to even 1-1 record in q’finals
Petro Gazz barged into the win column of the quarterfinals after blasting Tacloban
Without a doubt, Petro Gazz still has a lot left in its tank now in the quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference.
Olena Lymareva-Flink made her presence felt all over the floor as the Angels made quick work of Tacloban in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Lymareva-Flink totaled 22 points, 15 coming from kills and six coming from aces, and was backstopped by fellow reinforcement Anastiasiia Trach who pounded in 11 markers of her own.
Their energized effort is much welcome for head coach Jerry Yee – especially after a sorry loss to defending champion Pocari Sweat-Philippine Air Force last Saturday. “We got back to our game today,” he told reporters post-game.
Indeed, Petro Gazz came back with a vengeance in this one with Lymareva-Flink taking control in the early going before Trach and Alyssa Layug joined in on the fun in the third set.
With that, the Angels avenged their defeat at the hands of the Fighting Warays in the preliminaries.
More importantly, they evened their record to 1-1 in the round robin quarterfinals.
Disputing the last two seats in the semifinals along with Petro Gazz and the Tacloban are BaliPure, Pocari Sweat-Air Force, BanKo-Perlas, and Iriga.
The Angels’ win dropped the Fighting Warays’ standing in the quarters to 0-2. This, despite the best efforts of Amporn Hyapha who scored 16 points.
The top two finishers in the round robin quarterfinals will move on to the next round.
Already there are Creamline and PayMaya who secured the top spots in the Final Four after their respective impressive runs in the preliminary round.
