Fauzi Ismail is only continuing his stellar play in the quarterfinals
Philippine Air Force has gotten off the ground now in the men’s quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference and it has Fauzi Ismail to thank.
Ismail continued shining bright in the tournament and unloaded 21 points to boost the Jet Spikers past military rival Philippine Army in four sets, 25-23, 25-17, 27-29, and 25-20 on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Ismail, the pride of Tawi-Tawi, was on point all match long and hammered down 18 spikes to make sure his team got off to a good start in the round robin quarterfinals.
Air Force actually would have had a straight sets sweep if not for Benjaylo Labide who uncorked 16 points, most of which came in the third set which the Troopers stole.
Ismail and NCAA MVP Howard Mojica wasted no time restoring order for the Jet Spikers, however, and they marched forward in the fourth set all the way to a joint possession of the top spot in the quarterfinals with PLDT Home Fibr.
Mojica wound up with 16 points, all but one coming from kills, while setter Pitrus De Ocampo proved a master in orchestrating the attack with 46 excellent sets.
Air Force now turns its attention to Intituto Estetico de Manila on June 20 and then PLDT Home Fibr on June 23.
On the other hand, Army still has a chance to bounce back with matches up against PLDT Home Fibr on June 16 and IEM on June 27 coming up next.
Patrick John Rojas fronted their effort in this one with 18 points. They will have much to work on after giving away 36 free points to their opponents courtesy of errors.
Defending champion Cignal HD and upstart Vice and Co. are already in the semifinals of the tournament.
The last two Final Four berths will then go to the top two finishers in the round robin quarterfinals among PLDT Home Fibr, Air Force, IEM, and Army.
