BaliPure-National University head coach Babes Castillo gave the Water Defenders a passing grade despite missing the bus ride to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference.

The mentor liked what he saw especially from the high school standouts that are set to move up to the college ranks in UAAP Season 81.

“Overall I think it’s a very productive season for them, first time,” said Castillo after the Water Defenders swept Tacloban, 25-18, 25-16, 25-16, Wednesday at the end of the round robin quarterfinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

BaliPure, which fielded seven high school players, closed the quarters with a 2-3 win-loss record and 5-7 slate overall.

“Sabi ko nga perspective, it’s the first time that majority of high school squad has fielded in, it was a good start but I think we anticipated that they might be, they will be challenged in the midway doon sa liga because syempre mga seasoned and veterans ang mga (kalaban), lumabas nga ang pagkabata nila. That’s what we saw,” added Castillo.

However, Castillo knew that the exposure will help his players come UAAP season.

Bannered by incoming Lady Bulldogs setter Joyme Cagande, libero Jennifer Nierva, Ivy Lacsina and Princess Robles and high school stars such as UAAP Season 80 high school Most Valuable Player Mhicaela Belen, Faith Nisperos and Alyssa Solomon with seasoned American imports Janisa Johnson and Alexis Matthews, the Water Defenders gave their opponents a good fight.

“It’s a very good experience for them going back to their high school and sa magka-college going into their next UAAP Season. I think it’s a very good experience for them,” said Castillo.

Castillo and NU will be back in the Collegiate Conference with Cagande, Lacsina, Nierva and Robles joining the Lady Bulldogs.
