BanKo clinched the no. 3 spot in the best-of-three semifinals after completing a sweep of the round robin quarterfinals.
BanKo secured the no. 3 spot in the semifinals after making quick work of Petro Gazz, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, to complete a quarterfinals sweep of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Perlas Spikers finished the quarters with a clean 5-0 slate and arranged a best-of-three Final Four showdown against second seed and well-rested PayMaya starting on Sunday.
The Dong Dela Cruz-mentored squad, which won its seventh straight since the preliminary round, also towed defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force into the semis against top seed Creamline.
American import Kia Bright and Thai reinforcement Jutarat Montripila showed the way for BanKo, which entered the semis for the first time.
Bright was smoking-hot as she hammered down 19 attacks for 21 points while adding six digs for the Perlas Spikers. Montripila chipped in 12 markers, 12 digs and six excellent receptions while Nicole Tiamzon got nine for BanKo.
“Talagang gusto namin manalo talaga.'Yung momentum going to the semifinals, 'yun ang gusto naming,” said Dela Cruz. “Although kanina, noong naka-dalawang set kami, medyo okay na kasi kami na 'yung No. 1 sa quarters eh. Pero sabi ko, i-straight natin para maganda ang momentum going to the semis.”
The Angels dropped to 3-2 and formally bowed out of contention.
Ukrainian imports Olena Lymareva-Flink and Anasatasiia Trach finished with 17 and 13 points, respectively, while Paneng Mercado had 10 for Petro Gazz, which saw its three-game winning run come to a screeching halt.
