Alyssa Valdez will try to lead Creamline into the championship round when the Cool Smashers begin their semifinals series against defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force.
Creamline enjoyed the overwhelming support of the crowd when they joined the inaugural Premier Volleyball League season.
Bannered by popular hitter Alyssa Valdez and top playmaker Jia Morado, expectations were high for the Cool Smashers last year.
But the squad fell short of advancing in the Finals in the league’s first two conferences settling for bronze both times.
Now back with an even stronger lineup, Creamline is out to settle an unfinished business when the Cool Smashers square off with defending champion Pocari Sweat-Air Force in Game 1 of the PVL Season 2 Reinforced Conference best-of-three Final Four on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 2:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Cool Smashers topped the preliminary round after winning six of their seven games, losing only to BanKo, which clashes with PayMaya in the other semis pairing, in five sets.
Creamline claimed one of the outright semis berth but had an almost one-month break.
A long layoff that the Lady Warriors hope would render the Cool Smashers rusty in their important series-opening encounter.
While Creamline lacked action for more than three weeks, Pocari Sweat had the advantage of building momentum heading into the Final Four.
The Lady Warriors went through the round robin quarterfinals where they won four of their five matches, losing only to Banko.
Local hitter Myla Pablo, Jeannette Panaga and Americans Ari Love and Maddie Palmer will lead the charge for Pocari Sweat against Valdez, ex-Lady Warriors Michele Gumabao and libero Mel Gohing, Thai Kuttika Kaewpin and Serbian Nina Asceric of Creamline.
