Defending champion Cignal and Philippine Air Force will try to arrange a championship rematch.
Repeat-seeking Cignal and archrival Philippine Air Force are out to rekindle their championship rivalry on Wednesday when they try to close their respective Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference men’s semis series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The HD Spikers will try to finish off sister-team PLDT Home Fibr in the nightcap at 6:30 p.m.
Five-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo led the way for Cignal in Game 1 of the best-of-three series as the former Ateneo de Manila University standout uncorked 20 points in their 25-22, 25-20, 26-24, win.
The HD Spikers’ choking net defense also stymied the offense of the Ultra Fast Hitters’ top scorers Mark Alfafara and John Vic De Guzman, who only had a combined 21 markers.
Cignal hopes to clamp down on defense once again to advance in the Finals for the third straight conference after ruling the inaugural season’s Reinforced and Open contests.
Meanwhile, the Jet Spikers clash with Vice Co. at 10:00 a.m.
Bryan Bagunas exploded with 30 points while Kim Malabunga had 18 markers in the Air Force’s 27-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21 win over the Blockbusters.
Game 3, if needed, is on Friday while the best-of-three championship series will begin on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
