Cignal and Philippine Air Force rekindle their rivalry as they battle for the PVL Season 2 Reinforced Conference supremacy.
Defending champion Cignal begins its title-retention bid against a very familiar foe on Sunday in Game 1 of the best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference men’s Finals at the MOA Arena.
The HD Spikers will march into battle at 6:00 p.m. to face archrival Philippine Air Force and will be available via livestream.
Cignal is in its third straight championship appearance in the league and sixth straight overall since 2015 when the HD Spikers were still playing for the defunct Spikers’ Turf.
Behind a star-studded lineup led by Marck Espejo, Rex Intal and Ysay Marasigan, Cignal booted out sister-team PLDT Home Fibr in the best-of-three Final Four capped by a 25-23, 25-19, 33-31, win in the series decider last Friday.
The Jet Spikers are making their return in the Finals after a third place finish in the inaugural season’s Open Conference last year.
Air Force booked a conference Finals rematch against Cignal after sweeping second seed Vice Co., 25-14, 25-3, 27-25, in Game 3 of their semis series.
Bryan Bagunas, Ranran Abdilla and Ismail Fauzi will be the main weapons of the Jet Spikers as they try to end a one-year title drought since winning the 2016 Spikers’ Turf Open and Reinforced Conference crowns at the expense of Cignal.
This is the fifth championship duel of Air Force and Cignal in the past three years. The HD Spikers swept the Jet Spikers in their preliminary meeting.
Meanwhile, the battle for third between Vice Co. and PLDT is scheduled at 10:00 a.m.
