PVL: Para kaming nakulam – Gorayeb on Game 1 loss

PayMaya head coach Roger Gorayeb had a hard time putting into words the disappointing four-set loss of the High Flyers at the hands of crowd-favorite Creamline in Game 1 of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference best-of-three Finals.

The multi-titled mentor just made his sense of humor work.

“Alam mo kasi di ko malaman kung ano, para kaming nakulam,” Gorayeb joked after PayMaya’s 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25 loss to the Cool Smashers Sunday at the MOA Arena.

Coming off a grueling three-game semis series including back-to-back five-sets matches against BanKo to advance in the Finals, the High Flyers lacked the energy and drive they had in their previous outings. Their pace was slow and almost playing under the tempo dictated by Creamline.

Lamang naman kami eh,” he added.

American Tess Rountree poured 26 points while Grethcel Soltones and Jasmine Nabor added 11 and nine markers, respectively.

However, PayMaya threw away 29 points off errors coming – mostly coming from the crucial stretch of each sets.

For Gorayeb, the bottom line of their loss was that the High Flyers didn’t play their usual game.

“Nakakahiya man sabihin, hindi namin nilaro ang kailangan naming laruin,” he said.

Game 2 of the Finals is on Wednesday.

Gorayeb hopes that they can regroup in time to extend the series.

“Sabi ko sa kanila hindi na natin pag-uusapan ang laro ngayon kasi all of you are old enough to know how you played tonight, sabi ko. Isipin na lang ninyo yun and bumawi na lang tayo next Wednesday,” said Gorayeb.
