Philippine Air Force sets its sights on completing a sweep of archrival defending champion Cignal to end a one-year title drought.
Three more set wins and Philippine Air Force will become champions once again.
The Jet Spikers go for the jugular on Wednesday when they meet the defending champion Cignal HD Spikers in Game 2 of the best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference men’s Finals series at the MOA Arena.
Game time is at 6:00 p.m. and will air via livestream.
The Jet Spikers gun to end a one-year title drought since winning the Reinforced Conference of the defunct V-League at the expense of the HD Spikers.
Air Force will march into battle brimming with confidence after a morale-boosting come-from-behind, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 30-28, 15-8, win in the series opener.
Bryan Bagunas led the Jet Spikers, who want to return the favor on their last year’s Finals tormentors, with 25 points while Ranran Abdilla had 22 markers highlighted by five kill blocks including the back-to-back denials that sealed the match in the deciding frame.
Meanwhile, Game 2 will be a test of character for the HD Spikers.
Cignal had a chance to take the win in the fourth set in the series opener but a couple of crucial miscues in the closing stretch gave Air Force a chance to recover.
The HD Spikers weren’t able to adjust in time in the fifth as the Jet Spikers dominated the frame to put Cignal’s back against the wall.
Five-time UAAP MVP Marck Espejo, who was scoreless in the fifth set, Ysay Marasigan, Rex Intal and Peter Torres need to step up big time to keep their hold of the throne.
Game 3, if needed, is on Sunday.
