Kasi ang gustong ng coaching staff namin ay mag-focus na muna ako sa beach volleyball so baka pasulpot-sulpot na lang ako sa Collegiate (Conference) -- Bryan Bagunas
Reigning UAAP champion National University will be missing the services of top hitter Bryan Bagunas for most of its campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference men’s division starting July 21.
The King Bulldog and UAAP Season 80 Finals Most Valuable Player wants to shift his focus from indoor volleyball to beach volleyball.
Bagunas, who played for the national team in last year’s Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games, along with partner James Natividad will try to defend their UAAP beach volleyball crown two months from now.
“Si Bryan naman focus na siya sa training sa beach volleyball,” said NU beach volleyball coach Rhovyl Verayo, who steered Philippine Air Force to the PVL Reinforced Conference throne Wednesday with the help of Bagunas in a title sweep of archrival Cignal.
Bagunas, Natividad and alternate Fauzi Ismail dethroned University of Sto. Tomas in three games in the Finals last year to deliver the Bulldogs’ fourth crown overall and first title since the last of their three-peat in Season 77.
And achieving a repeat on sand is Bagunas’ priority right now.
“Kasi ang gustong ng coaching staff namin ay mag-focus na muna ako sa beach volleyball so baka pasulpot-sulpot na lang ako sa Collegiate,” said Bagunas, who won the Reinforced Conference Finals MVP. “More on magpo-focus ako sa beach volley kasi malapit na rin ang season namin.”
The Bulldogs finished fourth in last year's Collegiate Conference.
