PVL: Lady Bulldogs begin title-retention quest
A young National University squad opens its title-retention bid against San Beda University.

Defending champion National University opens its journey for a back-to-back on Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs face San Beda University in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Opening serve is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

The Lady Bulldogs ruled the inaugural edition of the tournament last year via clean sweep of the conference behind Most Valuable Player Jaja Santiago

But this time NU will parade a different lineup following the departure of Santiago and Aiko Urdas and with Jorelle Singh and Jasmine Nabor skipping the tournament.

Head coach Babes Castillo will parade the core of his BaliPure squad composed of a mix of veterans, incoming Lady Bulldogs and Nazareth School-NU high school standouts.

“Nine of the 14 players ko mostly mga incoming and future NU players,” said Castillo.

Bannering the squad are incoming rookie setter Joyme Cagande, Ivy Lacsina, libero Jennifer Nierva and Princess Robles.

San Beda, the NCAA Season 93 runner-up, will parade a solid and mature core led by Cesca Racraquin and sisters Nieza and Jiezela Viray.
