University of Sto. Tomas made short work of San Sebastian College.
University of Sto. Tomas needed only 69 minutes to dismantle a rookie-laden San Sebastian College, 25-21, 25-12, 25-17, Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Tigresses head coach Kungfu Reyes had the liberty to empty his bench and played with different rotations as they dominated the Lady Stags to join other opening day winners Adamson University and Far Eastern University.
Celebrated rookie Eya Laure scored seven points in her debut – all from kills – while UAAP Season 80 Rookie of the Year Fil-Italian Milena Alessandrini led UST with nine points.
Kecelyn Galdones submitted eight point while skipper Tin Francisco got five markers as 11 of the Tigresses 12 scoring players fielded produced points.
Aside from Laure, sister of UST’s injured hitter EJ Laure, setter Mafe Galanza debuted with 16 excellent sets. Galanza is the sister of former Adamson University star and Creamline standout Jema Galanza.
“Doon sa nilaro OK naman. Lumabas ang mga naensayo namin noong mga nakaraang buwan,” said Reyes, who opted to not field in the tournament top hitter Sisi Rondina and Dimdim Pacres. “Ito ang hinhintay namin na liga o venue na mas mailabas namin ang galing ng mga bata. Marami pang dapat ayusin at ipa-polish naman yan. Maraming potential na players.”
Team captain Joyce Sta. Rita, the only veteran left in SSC-R’s roster after head coach Roger Gorayeb made a major revamp, finished with nine points.
Jamille Carreon and Shannai Requierme combined for 13 markers for the Lady Stags.
