Madzlan Gampong took over the scoring role as top hitter Bryan Bagunas took a backseat in National University’s 25-16, 25-22, 25-22, sweep of College of St. Benilde in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference men’s division at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.

Gampong scored 18 points coming off 16 kills and two kill blocks to lead the Bulldogs to their second straight win in as many outings.

The graduating player added eight digs and stepped up for NU as Bagunas saw limited action.

Meanwhile, Adamson University joined NU in the lead after a four-set 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, win over De La Salle University.

Skipper Paolo Pablico showed the way with 17 points while George Labang and Geoffrey Alicando finished with 14 markers each for the Falcons.

Bagunas, who scored 24 points in their opener, played only in the third set, producing five markers.

Bagunas, the PVL Reinforced Conference Finals MVP, and James Natividad, who sat out the match, are already preparing for the coming UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball competition where they will try to defend their crown.

Rookie Angelo Almendres had 10 points while Kim Malabunga and Banjo Mondero combined for eight markers for the reigning UAAP champions.

The Blazers dropped to 1-1 slate while the Green Spikers slid to 0-2.

Ruvince Abrot scored nine points for CSB. Kiefer Reyes had 15 points while Cris Dumago and Ashberry Aquino finished with 14 and 10 markers, respectively, for DLSU.

In the night cap, University of Sto. Tomas also notched its second win after sweeping University of Perpetual Help, 25-17, 25-21, 25-11, behind Joshua Umandal's 16-point explosion.

The Altas remained winless in two games.
