Lady Blazers list first win at the expense of San Beda
The College of Saint Benilde etched its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the expense of the Cesca Racraquin-less San Beda University Lady Red Spikers, 21-25, 26-24, 25-8, 25-23, Thursday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
With the Blazers leading the close out set, 22 - 16, the Lady Red Spikers surged to a run and inched within one point, 24-23. CSB though shut down all Bedan hopes courtesy of a Diane Ventura kill as they let out a huge sigh of relief.
"'Di pa tayo ganoon katapang mag close out. We are still learning. Particularly me learning about my team so 'di pa ganun kalakas yung loob at 'di pa ganun ka consistent kaya marami pa ako tatrabahuhin," said first year CSB coach Jerry Yee.
Despite San Beda missing their captain Racraquin, Benilde did not have a walk in the park in snagging their first win. Marites Pablo led the Lady Blazers with 16 points while Klarisa Abriam chipped in 15.
"May kulang sila, may kulang din naman tayo, meron tayong mga dinedevelop. I'm sure sila rin. Everybody wants to get improvements so ayun sige lang, kung nanalo tayo ngayon kahit kulang sila, we'll take the win," added Yee.
San Beda's Nieza Viray tallied 19 points, all coming from kills, while China Tannagan added 12.
CSB, which improved to 1-2, will try to make it two in row as they take on the UST Golden Tigresses on August 11, while San Beda, which dropped to 0-3, will seek their first win against San Sebastian Golden Stags on the same day.
