University of Santo Tomas newcomer Eya Laure's caliber on the court is beyond rookie scale. Her court presence, volleyball IQ, charisma, and spunk are way over the charts.
She proved all this after she led the Golden Tigresses to a gritty four-set win over the equally competitive UP Lady Maroons with 18 massive points in the PVL Collegiate Conference, Sunday afternoon.
UP sealed the first set, but as UST bounced back in the next two sets, the Thomasians, headlined by Laure, did not let go anymore as they finished the match in the fourth frame. For every UP run, UST had an answer.
To add to the rookie opposite hitter's scoreline, she provided spunk and attitude much to the delight of screaming UST fans in the arena.
Fans chanted, "Eya, Eya, Eya" during the game. What a treatment for a rookie.
"Masarap ‘yung feeling [marinig iyon] kasi parang first time ko naranasan na ganun talaga na sobrang dami din [ng supporters].
On Twitter too, the name Eya Laure trended fifth in the Philippines, Sunday afternoon.
When she entered the press room for the usual post game interview for the winners, she also showed that she is also good on the record.
She articulately took the reporters to the moment where she had a turning point in the game and knew she had to step up.
As she joins Sisi Rondina, Tin Francisco, Maji Mangulabnan, Dimdim Pacres, and Milena Alessandrini next year, imagine what damage these Tigresses could do in the UAAP. With Laure on their side, make sure to not sleep on these girls.
