"Yung sinasabi ko sa team is para kaming panahon ngayon. Gloomy, umuulan, malamig, pilit binubuhay."
As rolls of thunder resonated inside the Filoil Flying V Arena, the University of Santo Tomas assured their spot in the semi-finals of the PVL Collegiate COnference after sweeping the College of Saint Benilde, 26-24, 29-27, 25-17, Saturday afternoon.
Pressing on to retain the lead all game long, the Golden Tigresses anchored their offense on rookie Ysabel Jimenez and sophomore Milena Alessandrini with 13 points each.
"Yung sinasabi ko sa team is para kaming panahon ngayon. Gloomy, umuulan, malamig, pilit binubuhay. Yung aura sa loob, nararamdaman namin sa labas," said assistant coach Ian Fernandez.
Fernandez called the shots in lieu of head coach Kungfu Reyes who is in Japan now for the National Team training.
In the first set, UST started hot with a commanding 7-0 lead but eventually let the Lady Blazers catch up in the end game. Still, UST had more power in the close out.
The same tempo continued until the second set but come the third set, the Golden Tigresses' momentum was unstoppable.
Alessandrini finished the match with a solid crosscourt attack, 25-17.
"Mahirap players mo kapag ayaw gumalaw, nangangapa. Di namin alam exact term dun sa aura nila nung first and second set. At least na overcome namin first two sets na sabi ko sa kanila enjoy sila celebrate every point, mga kasama i-cheer kahit anong klaseng puntos."
The Golden Tigresses now sport a perfect 5-0 slate and will face Adamson next on August 18. The Lady Blazers will seek for their second win on August 15 against UP to imporve their 1-3 record.
