PVL: Lady Tams secure at least a semis berth playoff
Jerrili Malabanan of Far Eastern University gets an attack through the defense of Perpetual's Cindy Imbo and Hershey Llorente.
Far Eastern University again went thru a marathon five-set in the Premier Volleyball Season 2 Collegiate Conference.
But this time the Lady Tamaraws came out on top to secure at least a playoff for a Final Four berth with a come-from-behind 25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 25-14, 15-6 victory over University of Perpetual Help Sunday at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Celine Domingo scored 19 points while Jeannette Villareal and Heather Guino-o added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for FEU, which rebounded from a five-set loss to Adamson last week for a 4-1 win-loss card.
Jerrili Malabanan and rookie Lycha Ebon chipped in nine markers each for the Lady Tams.
Head coach George Pascua felt relieved after a close call but pointed out that he wanted to see more from his second unit.
“Although nanalo kami pero kailangan bigyan ng break starting six namin para may kumpyansa bench namin,” he said.
Pascua tweaked his lineup in the second and third set that almost backfired before deploying his starters in the last two sets to put things back in order.
“Sabi ko sa kanila yung chance na binigay ko sa kanila dapat magpakita sila, best character nila kung ano mabibigay nila,” Pascua said.
The Lady Altas, who played without injured skipper Blanca Tripoli (hamstring), suffered their fourth loss in five games.
Cindy Imbo scored 15 points, Jenny Gaviola had 13 while Jowie Versoza got 10 for Perpetual.
