College of St. Benilde stays alive in the race for the last Final Four spot.
College of St. Benilde kept its Final Four hopes alive after taking down also-ran San Sebastian College, 25-16, 23-25, 25-12, 25-17, Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers improved to 2-4 win-loss record behind University of the Philippines (3-3). CSB can still vie for the last semifinals seat with a win over University of Perpetual Help next week and hope that San Beda University will upset UP to force a playoff.
Unbeaten Adamson University, University of Sto. Tomas (5-1) and Far Eastern University (5-1) occupied the first three best-of-three Final Four berths.
“Actually pwede ‘yung (three-way tie), I don’t know lang the format kung papaano ba, kung knock out ba ‘yun or ano, so not really sure. So hoping hoping lang tayo,” said CSB coach Jerry Yee.
Jan Daguil led three other Lady Blazers in double figures with 15 points all on kills. Chelsea Umali finished with 13 points while Marites Pablo and Klarisa Abriam scored 12 each for the Taft-based squad, who punched in 53 attack points and frustrated the attackers of the Lady Stags with 10 kill blocks.
SSC-R absorbed its sixth loss in as many games.
Mary Rhose Dapol had 15 points while Joyce Sta. Rita got 11 markers for the Lady Stags.
