Adamson University completed a seven-game elimination round sweep.
Adamson University shook off a rusty start before completing an elimination round sweep with a 19-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-13 win Sunday over listless San Sebastian College in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Playing sans middle blocker Joy Dacoron, who joined club team BanKo in an exhibition game in Bacolod, the Lady Falcons needed a wakeup call after the opening frame to claim their seventh win in as many outings and secure the top seed in the best-of-three semifinals against the no. 4.
Bernadette Flora finished with 17 points coming off 14 attacks and three kill blocks while Eli Soyud added 15 to pace Adamson, which had 44 attacks orchestrated by rookie setter MJ Igao’s 28 excellent sets.
The Lady Falcons encountered another bad start, a problem that has been hounding Adamson throughout the tournament.
Head coach Air Padda needed to talk her wards off their funk and her players responded with a dominating bounce back in the next frames.
“I feel like it’s the same story, you guys probably know what I’m gonna say (on inconsistency),” said Padda. “You know it would’ve been nice to finish strong, finish the conference play strong but that didn’t happen.”
“We’re still inconsistent and it worries me a little bit because after today this was like the end of our eliminations so this is important for us to finish with a good feeling going into the semis and I don’t think that we did that today,” she added.
The Lady Stags, which played without head coach Roger Gorayeb because of a prior commitment, finished the conference without a single win in seven games.
Shannai Requierme was the only SSC-R player in double figures with 17 points. Rhose Dapol got nine while Kamille Tan had seven for the Lady Stags, who gave away 37 points off errors.
