University of Sto. Tomas is just a win away from occupying a spot in the Finals.
University of Sto. Tomas faced some scary moments late in the fourth set before breathing a sigh of relief off Far Eastern University’s crucial miscue as the Tigresses moved within a step from a championship seat.
The Tigresses recovered from a set down to escape with a 16-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-23, victory over the Lady Tamaraws in Game 1 of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference best-of-three Final Four Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
UST duplicated its end of the elimination round win over collegiate rival FEU last Saturday in Cagayan De Oro.
The Tigresses have a chance to wrap up the series on Saturday.
Eya Laure uncorked 19 points off 15 attacks and four kill blocks while Fil-Italian Milena Alessandrini got 16 markers with 13 digs and eight excellent receptions for Espana-based squad. Skipper Tin Francisco added 10 points while Ysabel Jimenez got nine for the Tigresses.
UST flirted with disaster in the fourth set as they squandered four match point advantages before dodging trouble when Heather Guino-o sent her service straight to the net.
Jerrili Malabanan was the only FEU player in double digits with 10 points while rookie Lycha Ebon and returning Celine Domingo, who missed the Lady Tams' last two games because of a knee injury, scored nine each.
