PVL: I want blood in my hands –- Padda
I mean I painted my nails coz it’s the color of blood. I was like, ‘I want blood in my hands’, that’s how bad we need this (win) -- Adamson coach Air Padda

Adamson University head coach Air Padda sported dark red nail polish Saturday.

Her new manicure served as her version of the Lady Falcons’ war paint with Adamson fighting for dear life in Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference Final Four.

“It’s do-or-die day today. Kill or be killed. And I knew that,” said Padda, whose squad had their backs leaning against the wall in the series.

“I mean I painted my nails 'cause it’s the color of blood. I was like, ‘I want blood in my hands’, that’s how bad we need this,” added Padda.

Her wards responded with a masterful 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 win that evened the series and forced a winner-take-all match on Sunday for the best-of-three Finals seat at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“Man, they just went there and handled business. They knew they had to,” said Padda of her players. “And coach Godfrey (Okumu on UP) knew that we’re not gonna go down easy.”

The Lady Falcons methodically dismantled the Lady Maroons, focusing their defense on the left wing – a spot that was Adamson’s Achilles’ heel in Game 1.

Adamson, which swept the elimination round, limited UP opposite hitter Marian Buitre to only seven points after the Lady Maroon torched them with 25 markers in the series opener.

“I think that loss [in Game One] did more for us than we thought it ever could. I think, when you’re going into the semis and you’re undefeated, you can tell your team time and time again like 7-0 was out it doesn’t even matter anymore,” said Padda.

“Last game was a huge wake up call for us, we have a very big opportunity at our first championship as a team together, first championship under me,” she added. “I don’t think Adamson program has ever had a championship in Shakey’s (V-League) (since Season 7, second conference in 2010), so I think they just need to get slapped around and really understand that you don’t wanna blow your chance.”

Game 3 is set at 2:00 p.m.
