Adamson University swept University of the Philippines to force a do-or-die match for a spot in the championship round.
Adamson University rediscovered its winning ways after taking down University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21, Saturday in Game 2 of the best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference Final Four at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons, which swept the elimination round, forced a decider Sunday and bounced back from a four-set loss in the series opener.
Eli Soyud paced Adamson with 14 points while Chiara Permentilla and Bernadette Flora had nine markers each.
Soyud scored 12 attacks and two kill blocks while Flora registered all but one of her points on spikes and also contributed on defense with nine digs and nine excellent sets for the Lady Falcons, who effectively neutralized the offense of UP opposite hitter Marian Buitre.
“We went in the gym and we worked a lot on our left side defense, our left side blocking which I think was a lot better today,” said Adamson coach Air Padda, who saw her wards follow their game plan to the tee in stopping the attacks of Buitre.
The Lady Maroon scored 25 points in Game 1 but was put in check by the Lady Falcons’ relentless defense at the net. Buitre scored only seven points in a 6-of-29 attacking clip.
Roselyn Rosier and Isa Molde had eight points each while Marist Layug posted six for UP. Rosier and Layug finished in double figures in Game 1.
