“Ngayon lang (nalaman na MVP ako), kanina lang. Sabi ko ‘ba’t ako?’ Actually marami naman dyan na mas deserve nila, deserving. Tapos sabi ko, ‘bakit ako?’ -- Isa Molde
Isa Molde was surprised when league officials informed the University of the Philippines star that she won an individual.
She felt honored when her name was called as 1st Best Open Spiker in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference individual awards rite Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Molde was shocked to learn that she also won Most Valuable Player.
“Ngayon lang (nalaman na MVP ako), kanina lang. Sabi ko ‘ba’t ako?’ Actually marami naman dyan na mas deserve nila, deserving. Tapos sabi ko, ‘bakit ako?’ So siguro ide-dedicate ko na lang ‘to sa teammates ko,” said Molde, who can also add another honor to UP by helping the Lady Maroons complete a Finals sweep of Far Eastern University later.
The fourth year Lady Maroon averaged 15.14 points per game in the elimination round. The UAAP Season 78 rookie of the year normed 30.25% success rate in attacks with 0.48 service ace per set.
Molde also played superb floor defense with 3.96 digs per set for UP.
But the soft-spoken and timid hitter was quick to downplay her role and credited her teammates for helping her perform well.
“Siyempre ‘di ko makukuha ito without my teammates kasi hindi lang naman ako yun nagwo-work para rito kundi pati sila. Siguro idi-dedicate ko ito sa teammates ko and sa coaching staff,” she said.
Now with the highest individual award in her hands, Molde shifts her focus on the most important thing: closing down the series and giving the Diliman-based squad its first major title since winning the UAAP crown in 1982.
“Siguro hindi na lang iisipin na may nangyari kasi kapag lalo mong iisipin siguro mapi-pressure ka lang to do good and mas mahihirapan ka lang,” said Molde. “Nadyan naman ang teammates ko to help din kung ano man ang mangyayari mamaya.”
