University of the Philippines looks to finish off Far Eastern University to capture the PVL Season 2 Collegiate Conference title.
University of the Philippines hopes to write history on Wednesday as the Lady Maroons go for the title clincher against Far Eastern University in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference best-of-three Finals series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Maroons shoot for their first major championship in almost four decades in their 4:30 p.m. showdown that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
UP shocked the Lady Tamaraws with an amazing come-from-behind 14-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-5 Game 1 win Sunday to inch closer to pocketing the elusive crown.
The Lady Maroons has been searching for a championship since the Diliman-based squad ruled the UAAP in 1982.
With the PVL title within reach, UP head coach Godfrey Okumu believes that his wards are ready to win it all.
“We don’t want to extend it to the weekend. We’ll try to finish it on Wednesday,” said Okumu. “But FEU is a strong team I don’t know what kind of thing they’ll bring to us on Wednesday but we will be ready, we will be waiting.”
But FEU will surely go all out to try to extend the series.
The Lady Tamaraws are no strangers to having their backs against the wall.
FEU was also pushed on the brink of getting the boot in the semifinals after falling in the series opener against University of Sto. Tomas. But the Lady Tamaraws recovered and salvaged the series.
“Subok ang team ko,” said FEU coach George Pascua.
The Lady Tams will need to get more from veterans Heather Guino-o and Jerrili Malabanan and rookie Lycha Ebon especially with top middle blocker Celine Domingo doubtful because of right knee injury she suffered in Game 1.
Isa Molde, Roselyn Rosier and Marian Buitre will spearhead the Lady Maroons’ charge.
Game 3, if necessary, is on Sunday.
