PVL: Angels, Fighting Warays clash in opener
Skipper Paneng Mercado will try to lead PetroGazz to an opening-day win against Tacloban.

PetroGazz and Tacloban begin their campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Former University of Sto. Tomas star Jessey De Leon will make her debut for the Angels in the 4:00 p.m. battle that will air live on LIGA SkyCable channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable channel 183, via livestream and via YouTube.

De Leon, who took a leave of absence last year and a licensed architect, is expected to further solidify the net defense of PetroGazz, which will parade the veteran core of Paneng Mercado, Ranya Musa, Chie Saet, Cai Nepomuceno. New addition Maritess Pablo, sister of Pocari Sweat’s Myla Pablo, will also bring added firepower to the Jerry Yee-mentored squad.

But it won’t be a walk in the park debut for the Angels as they will face a veteran-laden Fighting Warays.

Former NCAA Most Valuable Player Shola Alvarez will banner Tacloban together with top hitter Jovielyn Prado, Anne Esguerra and University of the East’s Seth Rodriguez and Judith Abil.

The Fighting Warays ended the Reinforced Conference at the bottom.
