“We’re going to hold more and more games outside Metro Manila,” says Ricky Palou (extreme right), president of Sports Vision, organizer of the Premier Volleyball League. File photo shows him with Iriga City Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen, owner-manager of the Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons, one of eight teams taking part in the season-ending Open Conference of the PVL.
The much-awaited public appearance of the Ateneo Lady Blue Eagles since the UAAP last season will happen in Cavite as they debut under a new coach in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Imus Sports Complex in Imus City.
The hugely popular Katipunan-based squad, now under multi-champion coach Oliver Almadro and carrying the name Ateneo-Motolite, play Pocari-Air Force in the first of a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
PetroGazz takes on BanKo-Perlas in the second match at 6:00 o’clock.
Underscoring its intent to bring more of the PVL games to the provinces, PVL on Tour moves to Imus City right on its second playing day and on to Bulacan at the Malolos Sports & Convention Center on the third day, Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Pitted in the Malolos City twinbill are Iriga-Navy against Tacloban Fighting Warays at 4:00 p.m. and Pocari-Air Force against PetroGazz at six.
Tickets priced at P200 (reserved section) and P100 (bleacher) will be available at the venue gates on the playing day, although tickets for the Imus City games may already be purchased a day early on Sept. 22.
“We realize that with the unprecedented rise in the popularity of women’s volleyball,” explains Palou, one of the founding men and women of Sports Vision, “many want to watch our games, but their distance to our usual venue in San Juan are prohibiting them to. Particularly this season, Sports Vision will be bringing more and more games of the PVL to the provinces.”
