BanKo defeated Iriga-Navy in four sets to join PetroGazz in the opening day winners' list of the PVL Season 2 Open Conference.
BanKo recovered from a second set meltdown to turn back Iriga-Navy, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9, Saturday in their Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference debut at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Perlas Spikers started out jittery and surrendered the second set before regrouping to join PetroGazz in the opening day winners’ list.
Head coach Dong dela Cruz was forced to adjust his rotation after team captain Sue Roces injured her right wrist in a tune up match before opening day. It took his team quite some time to adjust as he inserted Amanda Villanueva in his rotation as replacement for Roces.
“Siguro first game jitters. Nawala ang rotation namin kasi last day ng training namin na-injure pa captain namin na si Sue kaya biglaan yung pagpasok ni Mads sa rotation,” said Dela Cruz, whose wards will take on the Angels on Sunday in their last of back-to-back games.
Nicole Tiamzon dropped 16 points with all but one coming off attacks while Joy Dacoron and Dzi Gervacio scattered 15 markers each for the Perlas Spikers, who unleashed 46 kills and frustrated the attackers of Iriga-Navy with 10 kill blocks.
Villanueva finished with 10 points, 10 digs and seven excellent receptions.
The Lady Oragons were able to steal a frame after getting their bearing in the second set following a slow start.
But BanKo was quick to adjust as the Perlas Spikers got their game going to cruise in the next two frames.
Rizalie Amaro posted 10 points while Florence Madulid and Divine Eguia combined for 15 markers for Iriga-Navy.
